Encanment
In response to the concept of encampment, and in celebration of Southern Exposure’s rich history in this space, REBAR has created Encanment a temporary canning operation that will harvest, process and can the gallery itself. During this event, REBAR will remove a section of gallery wall and can it. Cans will be labeled and sold to support REBAR and Southern Exposure.

MP3 Fort and Reparations Center
David Stein invites San Franciscans to meet and swap the contents of their ipods or laptops in an MP3 fort at Southern Exposure. If they are so inclined, they can also pay reparations to the musicians and or explain their rationale when they download and trade music. Participants can schedule to meet up with their friends at the fort. The spontaneous visitor can show up, looking for a trade.

Opening Kit
Drinks will be served at the opening night reception from the custom Opening Kit designed by Wowhaus artists Scott Constable and Ene Osteraas-Constable. Built from materials recycled from Southern Exposure’s gallery walls, the Opening Kit is a mobile structure that magically houses all the gear necessary for a successful opening.

Porch
Steve Green and Kathryn Kenworth welcome visitors to sit and chat on their Porch installation. Built mostly of cardboard and other common and recycled materials, this porch will provide a gathering place for people to walk through, sit down, linger and converse in a comfortable atmosphere.

Survive This!
Exploring the aesthetic, social, and practical implications of preparedness contrasted with the fantasies and mystique of survivalism, Sarah Filley has created Survive This!,  an informational agency on disaster planning. Filley will be stationed a the agency table throughout the evening registering citizens for their laminated National I.D. Card and providing guidelines for creating an individualized survival kit.

What's Happening?!?
Resulting from a 5-week investigation into happenings, fluxus performance, and art practices which challenge notions of audience and exhibition, the Youth Advisory Board will produce an "action" during the opening reception.  Using helium balloons to color code audience members, YAB seeks to create a living kaleidoscopic image which will be captured by video cameras positioned in the ceiling of the gallery.   The image produced by this action will be installed as a three channel video for the closing reception on June 3.
